Before you buy a dummy dimmer, check out Repenic's product line, as they have exactly what you need to achieve a consistent look without the downsides you mentioned.

    Hey Edwinc,
Jumping in here with a couple more points!
Ease of Use: This is a big one. Some thermostats have a reputation for being super user-friendly, right out of the box, while others have a steeper learning curve. A great thermostat is one you don’t have to think about too much. You want it to just work.
Thermostat Location: It might sound obvious, but where the thermostat is located in your home can really affect its performance. Make sure it’s not on a wall in direct sunlight or near a vent, as this can mess up its temperature readings.
System Type: Finally, just double-check if your system is single-stage or multi-stage. Not all thermostats work with every type of system, so knowing this detail is crucial for finding the right match.
Hope you find a great one!

Are your lights led? 6" cans? Bulbs? Usually what was once a 60watt incandescent bulb is now a 5w led. so you should be good as long as your not in the stone ages with your lighting. You want your switch to be capable of more watts than your load. Not matching

    Hi Ryan,
Thank you so much for this incredibly detailed and helpful response! It perfectly breaks down all my questions.
Your explanation about the incompatibility between a traditional dimmer and a separate motion sensor makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t thought about the dimmer acting on voltage vs. the sensor acting as a switch.
The solution of replacing my current dimmer with a smart dimmer that has a built-in motion sensor sounds like the simplest and most elegant way to go for my hallway. I’ll start looking into products like that.
Thanks again for all the great advice!

Cheers for the addition, Too2d! That point about "dimmable light bulbs" is truly crucial information – I nearly overlooked it! I'll certainly be sure to double-check that before purchasing.
